This wireless thermostat consists of two (2) parts, a thermostat and a receiver. The receiver has the wiring connections to the unit and it can be placed wherever the wires are available; the old thermostat location, in a furnace closet, in an attic or basement, or sometimes even inside a package unit on the roof.

The receiver is easy to install and is wired just like a standard 24VAC thermostat. Once the receiver is installed, the thermostat can then go anywhere in the building, and it will transmit radio signals back to the receiver. The transmission range is up to 500 feet, and it works through walls, floors, ceilings, etc. The temperature sensor is located on the thermostat, so place the thermostat where temperature control is most important to you - your bedroom, the boss's office, a baby's room, etc.

Hard-wired (Low voltage) connections between heating/cooling equipment and thermostats have many limitations that can now be overcome with wireless technology. Wireless thermostats add the flexibility to control the temperature in one or more locations of your choosing. They are ideal for equipment retrofits, additions, and for overall improvement in HVAC performance in new home construction. Wireless systems typically consist of the thermostat (sensor) itself and a receiver. Most come with one or more remote controllers.
The convenience of installing a system with wiring behind the walls is one the largest benefits of this technology. Another is the flexibility to place the thermostat in any number of locations. A third benefit is the ability to add higher levels of control without much effort. The manufacturers also claim significant savings in energy use due to better control over the system. Depending on the system you are comparing, the complexity of the system and corresponding level of control, claims of energy savings can exceed 20%. The less complicated systems will operate similar to a conventional thermostat system. In either case, there will likely be initial installation cost savings, especially for retrofits.
Limitations: The main limitations with this technology appear to be on the user side. Homeowners will need to become accustomed to periodic replacement of batteries. Likewise, some of the set-up programming may be intimidating to some users.

Please note that two wire thermostats are not capable of providing continuous voltage to the receiver, and also operate your HVAC equipment.
If your home has only two thermostat wires (on heating only systems), you can still use this product if you locate the receiver where you are able to provide continuous 24 Volts to the receiver.
The receiver does not sense temperature and therefore does not need to be located in your home's living area.
If your HVAC equipment supplies 24 Volts (you can test this with an volt meter across the thermostat wires), locating the receiver near the HVAC equipment will allow you to connect an additional wire to the receiver's Common terminal and therefore provide continuous 24 Volts.
Please Note: Often home builders install thermostat cable with additional unused wires for future expansion.
If these wires are not being used by your present thermostat, they might be coiled behind the thermostat faceplate or pushed into the wall.
One of these unused wires could be used to supply continuous 24 Volts to the receiver at your present thermostat location.
